Lionel Messi Approaches Multi-Year Contract Extension With Inter Miami

JAKARTA - Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are close to finalizing a new multi-year contract for the club captain, with only a few details remaining to agree on.

Launching ESPN, both parties are in the final stages of the negotiation process and the agreement is expected to be reached soon.

Once approved by Messi and Inter Miami, the contract will be sent to Major League Soccer (MLS) for final approval.

Although previously there have been reports linking Messi to clubs in other leagues, both Inter Miami and the Argentina captain have stated that they remain interested in continuing their relationship on and off the pitch.

Messi first signed a contract with Inter Miami on July 15, 2023. He arrived in South Florida on a 2.5-year contract until the end of the 2025 season.

He had a direct impact on the club, bringing Inter Miami to the inaugural 2023 League Cup (Leagues Cup) trophy just weeks after his debut.

Since Messi joined the team, Inter Miami has set a league record for the most points in a season and lifted the 2024 Supporters' Shield trophy.

In 2025, Messi has played 36 games with Inter Miami and recorded a total of 28 goals and 14 assists in all competitions, including the Concacaf Champions Cup, Club World Cup, MLS, and Leagues Cup. He is currently the team's top scorer.

One of the owners of Inter Miami, Jorge Mas, previously told ESPN that the club would do whatever it could to ensure Messi felt comfortable signing a contract extension and retiring in South Florida.
