Indonesia Without Medals, Thailand Is The General Champion Of The Fencing World Cup 2025

SOLO - Thailand is unstoppable and appears as the overall champion of the 2025 Fencing World Cup. On the last day, Thursday, September 18, 2025, the championship which was held at GOR Indoor Manahan, Solo, Thailand managed to add two gold medals. Meanwhile, Indonesia, which appeared at home, failed to win a medal

Indonesia seems to have a lot to learn from Thailand, which dominates the world championship in wheelchair fencing. Of the 10 athletes who were deployed, none of them broke through the semifinals. Indonesian athletes' steps were stopped in the last 8 and round of 16.

That failure shows that Indonesia is far behind Thailand. This is inseparable from the vacuum in the sport for more than six years.

On the other hand, Thailand, which is a specialist in the sport with wheelchairs, is able to dominate.

In fact, they were finally able to become overall champions after winning two golds from the female fiber team and the Female epee team classes. In that number, Thailand fielded Saysusee Jana, Duean Nakprasit and Thitirat Pengpresittipong.

In the saber team final, Saysunee Jana et al. beat Georgia who relied on Nino Tibilashvili, Irma Kgetsuriani and Gvantsa Zadishvili. While in the epee team class, Thailand won over the United Kingdom represented by Gemma Colins and Emily Holder.

With this result, Thailand won a total of four gold, three silver and four bronze medals. Followed by Hong Kong which became runners up with three gold and six bronze. Meanwhile, South Korea, which is ranked third, pocketed two gold, two silver, and six bronze.

Thailand coach, Nunta Chantasuvannasin, said that the medal achievement was already on target. This makes Nunta feel satisfied with the success of her athletes in achieving the target.

"We are happy with this result and of course we are also happy to be competing here," said Nunta.

Nunta said Thailand was ready to give full support to the Indonesian team which had just revived the wheelchair fencing sport, after being vacuumed.

"I hope Indonesia has more wheelchair athletes. We from the Thai team will help and provide full support. The Indonesian team can come and we can practice together," said Nunta.

Indonesia Is Not Targeted By Medals

Separately, Deputy Secretary General (Wasekjen) of the National Paralympic Committee Indonesia (NPC Indonesia), Rima Ferdianto, appreciated Thailand's success which outperformed 16 other countries.

"Thailand became the champion, as we had expected. In the 2024 Paris Paralympics alone they can get three gold medals. So we are not surprised that Thailand can win the general champion," said Rima Ferdianto.

Regarding Indonesia's failure despite being the host, Rima said Sri Lestari et al. were not given the target of winning medals. This championship is a learning event for athletes towards the 2025 ASEAN Para Games.

"From this event, the athletes already know the quality of the Paralympic champions. Hopefully in the future there will be our athletes who can achieve achievements at the Southeast Asian level first. Then gradually to Asia and hopefully there will be those who can participate in the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics," said Rima.

Meanwhile, the Technical Delegate Para Fencing World Cup 2025, Udo Zielger, said he was satisfied with the implementation of the championship in Solo City. According to Udo Zielger, the four-day event has exceeded expectations from World Para Fencing.

"I heard very good things from all athletes about this competition, ranging from venues, venue layouts, transportation, hotels to food. We really appreciate Indonesia's efforts in preparing everything. This is far beyond what we expected," said Udo Zielger.
