JAKARTA - Indonesian female tennis player, Janice Tjen managed to break a 23-year record to get the Red and White to qualify for the WTA semifinals in Brazil. Regarding this extraordinary achievement, Janice admitted that she did not expect it because she was only trying to perform optimally in each match.

Janice became the first Indonesian tennis player to reach the semifinals of the WTA Tour event in 23 years. She achieved this after stepping into the semifinals of the Sao Paulo Open 2025 after defeating third seed from the Philippines, Alexandra Eala at Parque Villa-Lobos, Brazil, Friday, September 12.

Previously, the Indonesian tennis player who was able to qualify for the semifinals of the WTA Tour event was Angelique Widjaja when he won the title at Pattaya City in 2002, right in Janice Tjen's new birth.

For this extraordinary achievement, Janice admitted that she really didn't expect it. Because all the way in this tournament he only tried to perform optimally.

"The feeling is still extraordinary for me, I really didn't expect it. (I) focused on every point, especially against Alex Eala, we all know he can get up at any time. I'm just trying to focus and survive until the end," said Janice, quoted from the WTA official website on Saturday, September 13.

Furthermore, the tennis player who was born in Jakarta, May 6, 2002, admitted that he enjoyed the time during his debut at the Sao Paulo Open.

"This is my first time going to Sao Paulo and I'm enjoying the time I've had here, especially I managed to qualify for my first semifinal at the WTA, so so so far everything is good," said Janice.

In the semifinals of the Sao Paulo Open 2025 which took place on Saturday, September 13, Janice will challenge England's sixth seed! Jones, who successfully defeated second seed Solana Sierra in the quarter-finals.
