Amorism: Sometimes I Want To Stop, Sometimes I Want To Hold On

Ruben Amorim is still emotional when he sees the inconsistent results of Manchester United (Instagram/@manchesterunited).

Ruben Amorim admitted that his emotions controlled him when he commented on the defeat to Grimsby Town at the Carabao Cup (28 August 2025) and a dramatic victory over Burnley in the Premier League (30 August 2025).

Amorim said something had to change following the penalty shootout loss to the fourth division team and claimed his players had spoken out loud about what they wanted through their performance at Blundel Park.

The removal of the Red Devils in the Carabao Cup had increased pressure on the Portuguese coach.

"I need to improve. It will be difficult. However, now I am ready for the next game," he said after the match against Grimsby.

However, the 40-year-old coach smiled as he entered a press conference before the match against Burnley.

He explained that his frustration at that time overflowed after watching his team lose against Grimsby.

"Friends, to be honest, every time we experience or experience such defeats in the future, I will be like that."

"I would say that sometimes I hate my players. Sometimes I love my players. Sometimes I want to defend my players."

"This is how I do something. I will be like that. I felt, at that time, I was very frustrated and upset," said Amorim.

"Sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here for 20 years. Sometimes I'm happy with my players, sometimes I don't want to be with them."

"At that time (after losing to Grimsby) I was very upset and disappointed because I felt our pre-season was very good. We played better, we were consistent in our way of playing."

"We played poorly for 30 minutes against Fulham 1-1 (24 August 2025 in the Premier League). Then a performance like that (against Grimsby), I was very disappointed with everything," said Amorim again.

However, Amorim could breathe a sigh of relief after that. After going through two games without a win (one draw and one loss) in the Premier League, they beat Burnley to a first win in the league.

However, the three points were hard earned. Manchester United had to lose twice the lead at Old Trafford before a penalty in second half injury time saved them.

At least, that achievement could be a good start for the Red Devils to close the international break. You see, they immediately face city rivals, Manchester City, on September 14, 2025.

In fact, six days later, their opponents were also challengers for the Premier League title, namely Chelsea, which will be faced at Old Trafford.

The real test for Amorim will come. Will victory against Burnley be a milestone for the rise of Manchester United, or will they fall again and make Amorism want to leave again.
