Transfer Concentration At Club, Mees Hilgers Absent From Defending The Indonesian National Team

Mees Hilgers will not join the Indonesian national team on FIFA Matchday (doc. Indonesian national team).

JAKARTA - One of the players of the Indonesian national team, Meesa Hilgers, was confirmed to be absent from the FIFA Matchday agenda in September 2025. This is related to his career at the club level.

Mees Hilgers is currently still under contract with Dutch club FC Twenty, but he is currently focusing on completing a move from the Eredivisie club.

Regarding Hilgers' situation, PSSI reported that the player would indeed focus on his career. Therefore, Hilgers is confirmed to be absent from defending the Indonesian national team at the FIFA Matchday in September 2025.

"The defender of the Indonesian national team, Mees Hilgers, has certainly not been able to join the Garuda Squad in the FIFA Matchday in September 2025."

"Hilgers is currently focusing on completing the club transfer process which is an important part of his career journey," said PSSI quoted Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

Previously, Mees Hilgers was reported to be leaving FC Twenty. However, his move to Stade Brest and most recently Go Ahead Eagles was canceled due to the transfer deadline.

Despite losing one player on this important agenda, the Indonesian national team will not relax their enthusiasm to face China Taipei and Lebanon in preparation for the 2026 World Cup Qualification Fourth Round.

"The essence of Hilgers does not reduce the enthusiasm of the Indonesian national team in facing these two important matches. Under the direction of coach Patrick Kluivert, the Garuda Squad will continue to make this momentum to finalize its strategy ahead of the 2026 World Cup Qualification Fourth Round of the Asian Zone in Saudi Arabia in October 2025," read the PSSI statement again.

FIFA Matchday will be a valuable test event, starting with the match against China Taipei on September 5, 2025, then facing Lebanon on September 8, 2025. All matches will be held at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya.
