2025 BWF World Championships: Beat World Champion, Putri KW To Semifinals

Putri Kusuma Wardani stepped into the semifinals of the 2025 BWF World Championships (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA - Putri Kusuma Wardani beat former world champion Pusarla V. Sindhu to reach the semifinals of the 2025 BWF World Championships (BWF World Championships 2025).

The ninth seed managed to lock the rubber game 21-14, 13-21, and 21-16 over representatives of India at Adidas Arena, Paris, France, on Friday, August 29, 2025, WIB night.

Sindhu, who won a gold medal from this event in the 2019 edition, started the first game poorly. He came from behind and forced Putri to play tight up to a score of 6-6.

However, the four consecutive points scored by Putri after that changed the course of the match. The distance between the two was never close again after that.

The second game was Sindhu's turn to dominate the game after Putri had time to stick to 3-4. The 15th seed immediately produced six consecutive points and Putri couldn't do much.

In the third game, Putri then responded with three consecutive points, but faced fierce resistance afterward. Chasing points made the Tangerang-born badminton player only narrowly two points ahead in the interval.

Sindhu continued to put pressure and kept the distance of points from wide until the score was 16-17. However, his effort stuck there after Putri managed to advance with four consecutive points.

This result made Putri the first Indonesian women's singles to step into the semifinals of the BWF World Championships since Lindaweni Fanetri in the 2015 edition in Jakarta.

In the semifinals, Saturday, August 30, 2025, Putri will face former Japanese world champion Akane Yamaguchi. The fifth seed defeated the third seed from China, Han Yue, in two straight games.
