JAKARTA – Jonatan Christie will face Ade Resky Dwicahyo, a representative from Azerbaijan of Indonesian descent, in the second round of the 2025 BWF World Championships.

The clash between the two will take place at the Adidas Arena in Paris, France, on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. They will meet in the fourth match on Court 1 at 11:30 a.m. local time (4:30 p.m. WIB).

"This is difficult for me. I know him. He (Jonatan) is a top 20 player in the world, but I'm trying to play with everything I have, my skills and technique. The most important thing is that I believe in myself," said Ade, as quoted by the BWF website.

Jonatan Christie advanced to the second round, or round of 32, of the 2025 BWF World Championships after winning in straight games 21-15, 21-5 over Germany's Matthias Kicklitz.

Meanwhile, Ade Resky, currently ranked 91st in the world, advanced to the second round after defeating Japan's Koki Watanabe in two games, 21-19 and 21-18.

Ade said that one of the major challenges that could hinder his efforts was a lack of confidence before the match. However, he has found a solution to overcome that.

"I've spoken with the coach and we warmed up, and then I feel better, both physically and mentally. On the court, I play without any pressure," he said.

The 27-year-old player previously attended a month-long training camp in Malaysia before the 2025 World Championships. That preparation has helped him in this year's World Championships.

"We also participated in tournaments before coming here. So, the training was good, the atmosphere was good, and the sparring was good. So, we're ready for this tournament," he said.

Jonathan was one of two Indonesian men's singles players to advance to the second round of the tournament. He advanced alongside debutant Alwi Farhan.

Anthony Sinisuka Ginting's journey in this prestigious event was much shorter. The Olympic bronze medalist was immediately eliminated after losing to host country Toma Junior Popov.

Indonesia's men's singles team has long been without a title at the World Championships. The last time they reached the top step of the podium at this tournament was Taufik Hidayat in 2005, two decades ago.
