Mohamed Salah Wins PFA Player Of The Year Award For The Third Time

JAKARTA - Mohamed Salah became the first player to win the Best Player of the Year award from the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) three times. This Liverpool forward outperforms Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, and Gareth Bale.

Salah, who was previously selected as the Best Player of the Year in 2018 and 2022, emerged as the winner of the list of six players nominated, including Liverpool team-mates Alexis Mac Allister, Cole Palmer (Chelsea) Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United), Declan Rice (Arsenal), and Alexander Isak (Newcastle United).

Aston Villa striker Morgan Rogers has been selected as PFA's Best Young Player - Villa's first winner since James Milner in 2010 - outperforming other nominations, Liam Delap (Ipswich/Chelsea), Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri (Arsenal), Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth/Liverpool), and Dean Huijsen (Bournemouth/Real Madrid).

Salah received the PFA trophy in a gala at Manchester on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, local time. The Egyptian won the award, based on the choice of his fellow players, after scoring 29 goals in Liverpool's campaign to win the 2024/2025 Premier League.

"I see myself now, a man who came from Egypt and managed to reach the highest level, making history today."

"It was something that made me very proud," Salah said when receiving the award at a ceremony in Manchester.

The 33-year-old's goal in Liverpool's 4-2 win over Bournemouth in the 2025/2026 Premier League opener on Saturday, August 16, 2025 WIB, has added his goal collection to 187 in the Premier League--place him in fourth place in the all-time goalscoring standings with former Newcastle and Manchester United striker Andy Cole.

After a busy summer with transfers from Anfield and the death of Diogo Jota, Salah was then flooded with questions about whether this season's team was stronger than last year.

"No," Salah said with a smile. "You can't say yes or no, it's difficult. You're recruiting talented players and we're also letting some great players go."

"You also know what happened to one of our teammates. So you need to give your experience to the new players because they've never played for Liverpool."

"Playing for Liverpool is not at all easy, with all the media and everything at the club. It's a huge pressure on young players."

"Virgil (van Dijk), me, and all the players in the team are trying to give them experience to help them," said Salah as quoted by ESPN.

Liverpool also dominated the best team of the PFA Premier League with four players - Salah, Mac Allister, Virgil van Dijk, and Ryan Gravenberch. For the first time since 2017, no Manchester City player has been selected to join the best team this year.
