Lando Norris Beats Piastri To Win Dramatically At The Hungarian GP 2025

JAKARTA Lando Norris appeared victorious in the dramatic race of the Hungarian Grand Prix 2025 at the Hungaroring Circuit, after successfully holding pressure from his teammates at McLaren, Oscar Piastri, to the finish line, Sunday 3 August. This victory became very meaningful because it cut the difference in points in the racing standings to just nine points, tightening the race for the Formula 1 world title this season.

Norris, who underwent a one-time pit stop strategy with the use of hard tires for more than half a race, finished only 0.6 seconds in front of Piastri which was twice pit. This is a crucial victory for the British racer after a less ideal start, where he lost two positions on the first lap.

This race is actually a tactical battle. Piastri entered the pit first and appeared to have a fresh tire advantage, but Norris, who carried out the one- pit stop strategy, managed to keep his tires performing very well. In the last five laps, Piastri began to approach and threatened Norris' position several times, including the dramatic incident on lap 69 when he braked too hard and almost hit his own partner.

"The pedestrian must be frustrated," said Martin Brundle, quoted by Sky Sports. "He's going to ask why we did two pit stops while Norris was only once and still won."

Charles Leclerc, who started from the front position, again failed to present Ferrari's first win of the season. The Monaco racer finally finished fourth after being overtaken by George Russell in the final lap-lap, and also received a five-second penalty for his aggressive defensive action against Russell.

Leclerc had voiced his frustration via radio, saying the Ferrari car could not be driven and blamed the team's strategic decisions.

George Russell, who finished third and took Mercedes to the podium, praised his team's performance but highlighted the tight competition ahead. "It's a tough ride, but happy to get on the podium. McLaren is so fast today," he said.

In addition to Norris and Piastri's rivalry, another tense moment occurred between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton on lap 29. The two almost collided when Verstappen tried to overtake at the fourth quick corner, but Hamilton chose to escape the track to prevent a major incident. Verstappen finally finished outside the top five after a bad pit strategy.

Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin finished fifth and brought important points for his team in the hunt for the constructors' positions against Racing Bulls and Sauber.

With this victory, Norris cut Oscar Piastri's lead in the standings to just nine points, signaling that the 2025 world title race will get hotter after the summer break.
