Ahead Of Chelsea Vs Madrid, Tuchel: First Leg Results Are Not As Important As People Think

JAKARTA - Thomas Tuchel asked Chelsea players to forget the results of the first leg of the Champions League before they host Real Madrid for the second leg at Stamford Bridge, London, England, Wednesday local time (Thursday WIB).

After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, mathematically Chelsea only needs a score of 0-0 to get past Los Blancos and return to the Champions League final since 2012.

"The challenge is to forget the results of the first leg and start the match still with a score of 0-0", Tuchel said at a pre-match press conference reported by Antara from the official Chelsea website, Tuesday night.

"The results of the first leg are not as important as people think. It doesn't change anything about the preparation, the training session, what I tell the players, and how we want to start tomorrow's match", he added.

In addition to asking to forget the first leg results, Tuchel emphasized that the Blues always prepare for matches with a winning mindset.

"We have no other way to prepare for the match. I only know how to encourage players to try to win matches", he said.

"If we are at our best, chasing wins is an automatic target. We want to win games. This club, this match, this competition is about winning", added Tuchel.

If able to get rid of Real Madrid, Chelsea has the opportunity to appear in their third final in the most prestigious competition in Europe, while for Tuchel it will be an appearance in the final for two years in a row after last season tutoring Paris Saint-Germain.
