After Fajar/Rian Dispelled In The Quarter Finals, Indonesian Representatives Run Out At The Singapore Open

JAKARTA - The Indonesian badminton team's steps had to stop early at the BWF World Tour Super 750 Singapore Open 2025, after all remaining representatives failed to advance to the semifinals.

Finally, the men's doubles pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto were eliminated in the quarter-finals after being defeated by Denmark's superior pair, Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.

Competing at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Friday (match date), Fajar/Rian must admit their opponent's superiority through a tight three-game duel with a score of 3-21, 23-21, 22-24.

"We apologize to all Indonesian people for this result. We have tried our best, but have not succeeded in providing the best results," Fajar said in an official statement from PBSI, as quoted by ANTARA.

In the first game, Fajar/Rian had great difficulties in facing pressure from the start of the match, until they finally gave up completely with a score of 3-21. They got up in the second game, appeared more consistent and finally won the game with a thin score of 23-21.

The fight was fierce again in the third game. Despite being left behind, Fajar/Rian were able to catch up to force a brace. However, the Danish pair appeared calmer in a crucial moment and ended the match with a 24-22 victory.

"Against this pair, it always makes it difficult for us. The combination of Kim's fine blow and Anders' solid defense made us uncomfortable on the pitch," said Fajar.

He added that crucial moments and final decisions of the game need to be important notes to evaluate. "Some settlements actually provide benefits for the opponent," he added.

Rian also conveyed the same thing, especially regarding services that are not stable when superior. "Several times my service is actually stuck during crucial times. We will evaluate this in the future," he said.

Previously, the mixed doubles pair Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu also failed to advance to the semifinals after being defeated by a pair from China, Guo Xin Wa/Chen Fang Hui, with a score of 8-21, 22-24.

The elimination of all representatives, Indonesia was confirmed without representatives in the semifinals of this tournament. This achievement is a major evaluation for the national badminton team, which is facing performance challenges in a number of major tournaments this year.
