JAKARTA Japanese manufacturer Honda does not deny the potential opportunity to have Jorge Martin, the reigning MotoGP champion, in their team.

Martin, who is currently still sidelined due to injury, is rumored to be ending the contract sooner with his team Aprilia Racing and will be anchored to Honda.

Honda HRC Castrol Team Manager Alberto Puig has denied any talks between his side and Martin, but that possibility is not impossible.

"I don't think it's just Honda, but all teams are interested in riders like Jorge Martin. He's world champion. If you're not interested, you're stupid!" he said as quoted by the MotoGP website.

Aprilia had previously released a statement in the middle of this week responding to rumors involving their Spaniard.

The Italian manufacturer firmly and clearly stated that the contract between Martin and Aprilia was legal and valid until the end of the agreement at the end of 2026.

Alberto emphasized that it is not Honda's habit to try to bring in a rider who still has a contract with another manufacturer even though it may exist.

"If you ask me if we are interested in Jorge Martin as a racer, of course, that's natural. We are interested in fast riders. He is one of the riders that must be considered clearly," he said.

Martin suffered a serious injury during pre-season and had to get on the operating table. He was back at the Qatar Grand Prix, but had another accident until he broke his ribs.

Until now, Jorge Martin has not returned to racing. Missing seven draws so far, the 27-year-old driver's chances to keep his title almost certainly closed.
