Tottenham Hotspur Captain Son Heung-min has ambitions to make history against Manchester United in the Europa League final at the San Mames Stadium, Bilbao, Thursday, May 22, 2025 in the morning WIB.

The Europa League final, which brought together the two English Premier League teams, was Son's last chance to win a trophy for Tottenham. And, Son hopes to do so after a failure in the 2019 Champions League final.

Son has ambitions to bring Tottenham to win the title. Moreover, this North London club has not won for a long time. Tottenham lifted the trophy last time in 2008. At that time, they only won the Carabao Cup or the third caste competition.

After that success, The Lilywhites never won again. Likewise in Europe, Tottenham is not a team that often wins. However, they had won the UEFA Cup which has now turned into the Europa League in 1984.

Tottenham have never won for a long time. When they got the chance to win the trophy after qualifying for the Champions League final. they had to admit Liverpool's lead 2-0. At that time, Tottenham had conceded through Mohamed Salah's quick goal from the penalty spot.

Ironically the penalty occurred when the game had only been running for less than 60 seconds. Because the midfielder Moussa Sissoko was declared handball even though it only hit the arm. This is Son's unforgettable bad memory.

"I still can't believe it's handball. But we can't change that decision. Now, we're completely focused on this game, especially in the first 15 minutes," Son was quoted as saying by breakingnewsnews.ie.

"In every game, the first 15 minutes are very important to get the tempo of the game. How the rhythm of the game goes well. I remind the players that we have to start the game with full confidence," he said again.

"Six years ago, I played in the final for the first time. It must be admitted that the moment made me nervous and full of joy. I was nervous because I couldn't believe I could play in the Champions League final," said the South Korean national team captain.

According to him, over the past six years, there have been many changes. The players came out and entered Tottenham, which is now being handled by Ange Postecoglou. He also got a different role because he has now become captain of the team to replace Harry Kane who moved to Bayern Munich.

Son hopes Tottenham will follow in Kane's footsteps who finally won the trophy after bringing Bayern to win the German Bundesliga.

"After six years passed, I became more mature and experienced. This made me prepare myself [to face the final match] more calmly," he said.

"Obviously there have been many changes. Over the years, many players have come. My role has also changed. At first it was just an ordinary player, now I am the captain of the team. I am the leader of the players and I want to bring players to lift trophies together," said Son, who is optimistic that Tottenham will make history.

"I hope we can create a history I never forget. In the future, we never know. We could have played in the Champions League or not. I don't know. What is clear is that the opportunity is real. I don't think about anything else," he said.

"This could be my last chance. Or there could be another chance. But I just want to focus on the final game and win it with the others," he asserted.

The final match featured two teams that were both slumped in the Premier League. Tottenham are in 17th or one strip above the relegation zone. Meanwhile, MU is in the first position strip above Tottenham.

"We want to change this bad season by winning the trophy for Tottenham," he said.
