Ruben Amorim Still Protects The Failure Of Rasmus Hojlund

Ruben Amorim emphasized that Rasmus Hojlund was not the only one to blame for Manchester United's goalscoring problem, while urging all team members to take responsibility in front of goal.

Hojlund was found guilty of missing a golden opportunity in the second half when Wolverhampton Wanderers won 1-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday, April 20, 2025, when he failed to convert Alejandro Garnacho's cross to the back post.

Now, the Danish striker has only scored one goal in almost 30 hours and has scored just three goals in the Premier League this season.

"I think if you look at the game, we have some players who are missing out on big chances, not just Rasmus."

"Of course, Rasmus, the goal of the game is to score a goal because he is an attacker, but this is a team matter."

"I've already said that. Our team had to score more goals, not just Rasmus who missed the chance," said Amorim.

Pressure on Hojlund increased after Joshua Zirkzee was absent for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury.

Amory then asked whether the 22-year-old player needed to be removed from the team so that he could recover mentally from his poor form.

However, the Portuguese coach hinted that he would still vote for Hojlund in the hope that his goal could trigger his confidence.

"The only way I know is to train and show the video."

"As you said, he needs to score a goal and he won't score if he doesn't enter (the team)."

"So, I tried to arrange it during the game. He needed to score goals, that's all, just like the attacker needed," said Amorim.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are expected to try and solve the problem of scoring goals by recruiting new strikers in the summer.

They have been linked with Liam Delap, Victor Osimhen, andgalah Waktins, among others. However, Amorim believes the problem is deeper.

"It's a team matter. Of course, we have an idea of what this team needs, but also the players we play."

"We played at least three players up front to score goals and we have midfielders who can afford it."

"All teams need to score more goals and you have chances with midfielders and attackers."

"We need to improve our team skills. If you don't score in this league, it's impossible to win a game," Amorim said again.
