JAKARTA - The coach of the Indonesian national team, Patrick Kluivert, was finally able to reunite with his former foster child, Joey Pelupessy, after 13 years of not meeting.

This togetherness was created after Joey officially was able to defend the Indonesian national team because the naturalization and transfer of the federation was completed this month - following the Kluivert appointed by the Garuda Squad coach in January 2025.

The two met again when the Indonesian national team prepared to fight Australia in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in Sydney.

Currently, Garuda Squad players have gathered in Australia to prepare for their appearance on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

"We have known each other for a long time," Kluiver said of his meeting again with Joey on the Indonesian national team's YouTube quoted Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

Joey also confirmed Kluiver's statement about this encounter. The player said that Kluiver had trained him and had not seen him for 13 years.

"Yes, that's right. It looks like it's been 13 years (not meeting). He (Patrick Kluivert) was my coach first," said Pelupessy.

"It's great that he's here," Kluiver replied in response to a meeting with Joey.

Joey Pelupessy is a Kluiver fostered player at FC Twenty U-21. His moment of togetherness at the elite Dutch club took place from 2011 to 2013.

After that, Kluivert was recruited by Louis van Gaal as assistant coach of the Dutch National Team until 2014. At the same time Pelupessy was promoted to FC Twente's first team in 2013.

Pelupessy is expected to appear in the Australian vs Indonesia duel because this match is important for the Garuda Squad which is struggling to the 2026 World Cup.
