All England 2025: Bagas Maulana Back To Semifinals, This Time With Different Couples

Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana stepped into the semifinals of All England 2025 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA - Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana stepped into the semifinals of All England 2025 after beating Lee Jhe-Huei/Yang Po-Hsuan (China Taipei) with a score of 21-11, 20-22, 22-20 at Utilita Arena, Birmingham, Saturday, March 15, 2025.

Bagas Maulana, the achievement of the All England semifinals is not the first time he has won. He had reached a similar round in the 2022 edition when he finally won the world's oldest tournament with Muhammad Shohibul Fikri.

In the next two editions, Bagas/Fikri's appearance is quite slick because they can reach the quarter-finals of All England 2023 and 2024.

It's just that, at All England 2025, Bagas has changed partners. He is now partnering with Leo Rolly Carnando, who was previously Daniel Marthin's tandem.

So, this trip is Bagas/Leo's first semifinal in All England.

"I'm very happy to be back in the All England semifinals and for the first time with Leo. Opponents change the pattern of play quickly, the front is very tight. It makes it difficult for us to anticipate it."

"After the 19-20 point, we have surrendered and do not want to speculate. We just try to enter first the return."

"It turned out that the opponent did a lot of speculation and ended up making mistakes," said Bagas after securing the semifinal ticket.

Bagas certainly wants to return to the All England final for the second time. The compatriot, Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, is waiting in the top four.

The doubles of the Korean Open 2024 champion is well aware that his compatriot is not an easy opponent.

"Our meeting record with Sabar/Reza is 1-1. Tomorrow will be an exciting and interesting match. We will learn their game again," said Bagas.

Meanwhile, Leo emphasized that he would give his best performance in order to secure the ticket to the first All England final in his career.

"It's great to win (in the quarter-finals), but it's amazingly tense. We were caught after winning far in the deciding game."

"Luckily we were able to turn things around and ensure that Indonesia has representatives in the final because tomorrow we meet fellow Indonesians. We will do our best again in tomorrow's semifinal match," said Leo.

Bagas/Leo and Sabar/Reza will clash in the All England semifinals on Sunday, March 16, 2025.

They became Indonesia's last representatives in the BWF Super 1000 dive event. Their second meeting in the semifinals also ensured that Indonesia had the only place in the final.

The two men's doubles failed to follow Gregoria Mariska Tunjung. The bronze medal winner for the 2024 Paris Olympics was stopped in the quarter-finals.
