JAKARTA - BYD Seagull or known as Atto 1 in Indonesia, now has its latest generation that appears in the latest vehicle declaration document released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China. The presence of this model reveals a thorough update.

Launching from Carnewschina, Tuesday, July 14, one of the most striking changes is seen in its body size. The BYD Seagull now has a length of 4,205 mm, a width of 1,810 mm, and a height of 1,570 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm.

The wheelbase is increased by 150 mm compared to the previous model, while the overall length increases by 425 mm. With these new dimensions, Seagull is now getting closer to the size of the BYD Dolphin.

The increase in dimensions is also balanced by the improvement of the performance sector. This electric hatchback is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor code TZ164XYB produced by Zhengzhou BYD Auto Co., Ltd. The motor is capable of producing a maximum power of 95 kW or around 127 hp, significantly increased from the 55 kW (75 hp) motor used in the previous basic variant.

Based on certification data, this vehicle has a maximum speed of up to 150 km/h. For its energy source, BYD still relies on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by Shaoxing FinDreams Battery Co., Ltd.

The company is also responsible for the overall battery pack assembly process. The use of this battery is a continuation of the development that has been applied to the 2026 BYD Seagull model.

As the dimensions increase, the weight of the vehicle also increases. Government documents note that the standard variant has a curb weight of 1,180 kg with a maximum total weight of 1,555 kg. Meanwhile, the higher specification variant has a curb weight of 1,255 kg and the maximum vehicle weight reaches 1,630 kg.

BYD also provides a variety of exterior personalization options, ranging from aerodynamic rim designs, fender ornaments, side skirt lists, to emblems that are tailored to each market. All variants listed in the document use a five-passenger cabin configuration with 205/60 R16 tires.

In the global market, this electric hatchback is marketed with a number of different names depending on the region of sale. In addition to being known as the BYD Seagull, the model is also marketed as the BYD Atto 1, BYD Dolphin Surf, and BYD Dolphin Mini in several countries.

Other updates also touch the smart driving technology sector. BYD added an integrated camera option on the top brake light as part of the development of driver assistance systems. This step follows the emergence of a prototype hatchback that has been equipped with lidar sensors while undergoing road testing.

The update is considered important considering the increasingly tight competition in the urban electric car segment in China. Based on China EV DataTracker data, Geely EX2 (Xingyuan) recorded domestic sales of 33,359 units in June 2026.

For comparison, BYD Seagull recorded retail sales of 9,825 units in the same period, so this comprehensive update is part of BYD's strategy to improve the competitiveness of its products.
