Manchester United Coach Supports Harry Maguire Called Back To The England National Team

JAKARTA - Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim said Harry Maguire deserved to be recalled to the England National Team.

The leadership quality of the defender is a reason to push Maguire back to the Three Lions because he can become an asset.

Maguire, who has played 64 times, is one of the big names not to be called to Euro 2024 in Germany, where England ended up runner-up after losing to Spain 1-2 in the final in July 2024.

The 31-year-old, who was removed from the club captainship by former Manager Erik ten Hag in 2023, has made a much better performance for Manchester United this season.

He scored the winner against Leicester City in the FA Cup Fourth Round and Ipswich Town in the Premier League last month.

"If called the England National Team, I would be very happy for him. I think he deserves it."

"He's a great player. I think he still needs to improve because when you're a player, you can develop all the time and improve a lot."

"However, I think his current performance is quite good. You feel he is more of a leader now who can help the England National Team. So I hope he is in the England National Team in the next game," Amorim said when asked if he thought Maguire's performance was good enough to be considered by the UK.

Currently, the Three Lions have a new captain. The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss, Thomas Tuchel, replaced Gareth Southgate in October 2024.

Southgate left office following their defeat in the Euro 2024 final.

Meanwhile, Tuchel has started monitoring players to mix the team on the nearest agenda. He will announce his first English squad this month for the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.
