1-2 Defeat Of Sassuolo, AC Milan Failed To Reach The Top

JAKARTA - Sassuolo thwarted AC Milan's efforts to approach the top of the Italian League standings after winning 2-1 on a trip to the San Siro Stadium for matchday 32 on Wednesday local time (Thursday western Indonesia time).

As a result of these, Milan who is in second place failed to add to the 66 points they have and are still nine points behind city rivals, Inter Milan, who have only played late in the game.

Stefano Pioli's team actually appeared relatively dominant throughout the match and was able to take the lead from the 30th minute through Hakan Calhanoglu's beautiful goal which curled a shot that was beyond the reach of goalkeeper Andrea Consigli.

Four minutes earlier, Milan had the chance to open the scoring early, unfortunately, Rafael Leao's shot that tricked Consigli was blocked by Giorgos Kiriakopoulos who put his body in front of the goal.

Milan's lead was almost doubled by Alexis Saelemaekers in the 55th minute, but Kiriakopoulos managed to clear his powerful shot.

In the 64th minute, the visitors made an important change by sending Giacomo Raspadori in for Gregoire Defrel who would later become the star of Sassuolo's victory.

Raspadori drew the score first in the 76th minute when he stood in the right position to deflect Jeremy Toljan's shot, which knocked goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and the score drew 1-1.

Seven minutes later, Raspadori took one touch to beat Fikayo Tomori when receiving Domenico Berardi's cross before firing a shot into the area of the far post which gave Sassuolo a 2-1 lead.

The two goals spawned the Sassuolo players to widen the margin of advantage, but Lukas Haraslin's shot was cleared by Donnarumma and Kiriakaopoulos' shot went off target.

Raspadiori then took an important bow a minute before normal dispersal to thwart Rade Krunic's shot to seal Sassuolo's 2-1 lead which lasted until the whistle sounded the game over.

Sassuolo, who continues their positive trend of picking three consecutive victories, continues to keep their hopes of appearing in European competition next season, with 49 points in the eighth position, just five points behind AS Roma, as reported by Antara on the official Italian League website.

In the next match, Sassuolo will host Sampdoria on Saturday, April 24, two days before Milan visit Olimpico to meet Lazio.
