JAKARTA - Barcelona midfielder Pedri has signed a new contract that will tie him up until 2030.

Barcelona have made Pedri's contract extension a priority for 2025 with his previous contract which expires in the summer of 2026.

The 22-year-old has forgotten his injury problems this season and proven himself to be a mainstay player under Hansi Flick.

Flick recently explained that a change in the club's approach in managing Pedri's playing time proved useful.

"We changed the philosophy a little with Pedri this season. We kept him playing because it's better for our fitness, our ideas, our philosophy of fitness, better like this with him."

"For that reason, we didn't arrange the playing minutes since the start of the match. Maybe only at the end of the match," the German coach said at a press conference on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

Pedri first joined the Blaugrana from Las Palmas as a teenager. He made 52 appearances in his first season at the club before participating in Euro 2020 and the 2020 Olympics with the Spanish National Team.

Injuries then reduced his actions over the next three seasons, but he remains injury-free and plays an important role under Flick this season.

He is close to 200 appearances for the Blaugrana, while he has also played 30 times for Spain, which he helped to win Euro 2024.
