Malaysia Open 2025: Opponents Of Injury, Patience/Reza Qualify For Round Of 16

Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani stepped into the second round of the Malaysia Open 2025 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA - The men's doubles pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani got tickets for the round of 16 of the Malaysia Open 2025 without a full struggle.

Patience/Reza played the first round of the BWF Super 1000 event against Danish representatives, Rasmus Kjaer/Frederik Sogaard, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, WIB night.

However, Rasmus picked up an injury when they were 12-7 ahead in the first game. The problem made the runner-up pair Hylo Open 2024 decide to withdraw from the tournament.

"It must be sad to see fellow players injured. It's not the victory we want like this. We hope that Rasmus will recover soon and his injury will not be fatal," said Sabar in the statement.

Patience/Reza should have played on the first day of Tuesday, January 7, 2025. However, the leaking of the roof of the Axiata Arena Stadium was hit by heavy rain, making their schedule pushed back to today.

"Yesterday, it will be played until late at night. Good decisions from the committee and BWF," said Sabar.

Sabar/Reza are among the five Indonesian representatives who managed to secure the ticket to the second round of the Malaysia Open 2025.

They qualified with Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja, Putri Kusuma Wardani, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, and Lanny Tria Mayasari/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.

The other four representatives who were confirmed to be eliminated were Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi, Jonatan Christie, and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
