BWF World Tour Finals 2024: Dejan/Gloria Defeated By Malaysian Representatives

JAKARTA - Mixed doubles pair Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja lost in the second match of Group B BWF World Tour Finals 2024.

They recognized the superiority of the Malaysian pair, Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei, two straight games 17-21 and 18-21 at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, China, on Thursday, December 12, 2024.

"From the first, their pattern immediately made it difficult for us. The punches were brave which made me kagok and Gloria," said Dejan in a statement received.

Dejan/Gloria have been under pressure since the first game. They had no chance to press down on the opponent after being involved in chasing numbers up to 4-4.

They also started the second game badly and were 5-9 behind. However, the four points they scored after that made the match run fiercely until the interval.

The momentum was lost when the opponent responded with six consecutive points. Dejan/Gloria tried to get up at the end points, but it ended in vain.

"Today is not my best performance. I can't get out of the pressure myself, especially in the first game."

"In the second game, it started to feel good, but it was quite far behind, so it was difficult to catch up," said Gloria.

Dejan/Gloria will next face another Malaysian pair, namely Goh Soon Huat/Lai Shevon Jemie. This will be the match for determining tickets to the semifinals.

Their hopes for the knockout stages are still open after winning the first match yesterday (11 December 2024) against the Japanese pair, Hiroki Midorikawa/Natsu Saito.

"Tomorrow (13 December 2024) the decisive match will be in the semifinals. Of course everyone wants to win, either us or Goh/Lai (Malaysia). Hopefully what happened today will not happen again," said Gloria.
