Alonso Has No Problem Dominating Leverkusen Over Inter Milan Only Making One Goal

Bayer Leverkusen only narrowly won 1-0 at home to Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, early morning WIB.

The only goal in BayArena was scored by Nordi Mukiele in the 90th minute. The goal was enough for Leverkusin to secure his fourth three points in the Champions League this season.

However, Leverkusen could actually score more goals. Xabi Alonsi's team played very dominantly over their guests.

Just imagine, they packed 60 per cent of possession, fired 17 shots, and five shots were on target.

This situation made the Nerazzurri have absolutely no chance of having 30 percent possession.

Leverkusen had many chances wasted, one of which was Nathan Tella's shot which hit the post at the start of the match.

After that, there were also shots from Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Tah that failed to produce points.

The club nicknamed Die Werkself had to wait until the last minute to finally score a goal.

Mukiele came on the scoreboard after taking advantage of the chaos in front of Inter's goal.

However, Xabi Alonso did not want to question the many wasted opportunities. Most importantly, his team secured three important points at home against the top club.

"I am happy with the performance against the top team. We show good maturity."

The victory brought Leverkusen to second place in the Champions League standings with a collection of 13 points from six matches (four wins, one draw, and one defeat).

At least, Leverkusen can be a little comfortable as their chances of qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League are wide open.

As is known, the top eight teams of the standings will qualify directly for the knockout stages.
