Ruben Amorim's Debut Failed, Rashford's Quick Goal Failed To Win MU

JAKARTA - United's new Mancheter manager Ruben Amorim's debut did not end sweetly. Winning first through Marcus Rashford's quick goal, MU was only able to draw 1-1 against Ipswich Town in the English Premier League match at Portman Road Stadium, Sunday, November 24, 2024 evening WIB.

MU actually started the match well and appeared confident. Even the match had only been running for 81 seconds, United had already won when Rashford managed to finish the assist from Amad Diallo.

Only after that goal MU had to work hard to deal with the Ipswich attack. Moreover, the 3-4-3 play scheme that was applied by Amorim did not go as expected. The former Sporting CP coach finally turned it into 3-4-2-1 with three Noussair defenders Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt and Jonny Evans.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana also had to struggle to save the goal which was threatened by the opposing player. He, through one hand, brilliantly thwarted the opportunity from Liam Delap.

But Onana's goal finally conceded in the 43rd minute. Striker Omari Hutchinson hit Mazraoui so he turned slightly and slid into the top corner of the net without being saved by Onana.

In the second half, MU still under pressure from Ipswich who tried to play offensively. Onana again made a save when the forward host Sam Szmodics almost broke into the MU goal. Luckily, his back heel kick was saved by Onana with her feet.

MU had a chance to take the lead again through Bruno Fernandes. However, the captain's free kick was still wide so that the score 1-1 did not change until the end of the match.

The draw made the ambition's debut not ending satisfactorily. Moreover, the Red Devils failed to maintain their lead. However, he still received a welcome from supporters who came to Ipswich to provide support. The name Amoram has also been reverberated and entered the chant of the fans.

However, it is undeniable that the results show that Amorism will work hard to make improvements to the team. He also admitted that the team still needed physical improvement, technique and tactics in order to play with the expected scheme.

"They are good players. But we have to improve physically, engineering and tactics. We need time for that. I'm also starting to learn when this league is really tough," said Amorim.

"Right now we can't expect much. And, we have to deal with it. That's why I was a little worried because we never knew what would happen until the game took place," he said.

"They [players] have actually tried hard. But they also thought too much about the game. We should also be more in possession and trying to keep it," said Amorim again.

Amory further said he would not talk much and focus on improving the MU rankings in the standings.

"In this one week, I talked more than during the four years at Sporting. If you talk too much but can't win the game, it's obviously difficult for anyone," he said.

"So, I just want to work hard with my players. No more. However, I have to admit that the match at this is different," he said.

An additional one point does not change MU's position in the standings. The team is still stuck in 12th place with 16. Meanwhile, Ipswich is in the relegation zone. This promotional team is ranked 18th with nine points.
