Norwich City Donates 200 Thousand Pounds Sterling To Fight COVID-19

JAKARTA - The Norwich City squad, head coach Daniel Farke and the executive committee will donate a portion of their salary to parties affected by the COVID-19 pandemic or the corona virus.

In total, more than £ 200,000 will be donated. Apart from that, Norwich also confirmed that the club owner and director pledged to contribute.

Earlier this week, Norwich became one of a number of Premier League clubs to reduce the salary of non-playing employees by 20 percent or up to the equivalent of £ 2,500 per month. This is a new rule implemented by the British government in response to the crisis caused by COVID-19.

The funds will be used to purchase and distribute food and toiletry packages for those in need in the Norfolk community. Meanwhile several Norwich-based charities will also receive a share of this donation.

Grant Hanley, captain of the Norwich club, said on the team's official website: "Obviously there is a lot of complexity and discussion going on at the moment, but right now is really the best thing we can do for our community.

"As a group of players, we want to stand up and do our part. The players have heard the stories and the firsthand challenges facing some of our supporters right now. We need to make sure to reach out and help those who have been hit hard and are struggling right now.

"Obviously, the club is doing everything possible to help the staff, fans and the wider community at this challenging time, and we want to make sure that we contribute too."

The Premier League and Professional Footballers Association (PFA), together with representatives from the English Football League (EFL) and the Association of League Managers (LMA), are currently in discussion on whether or not to cut players' wages.

Professional football in England has been suspended until at least 30 April, and the season can be completed later than 1 June if the need arises.
