Team Branch Becomes The Backbone Of The 2028 Olympic Athletes Quota

JAKARTA Team sports (sports) will be the backbone to meet the quota of athletes at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto's direction.

Prabowo set a high target for Indonesia, at least 100 athletes in the contingent who will go to the United States later. This figure is high when compared to Indonesia's participation in the previous Olympics.

Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI), Raja Sapta Oktohari, revealed that the target was conveyed directly by Prabowo on the sidelines of holding the 2024 Paris Olympics.

"(So) we have to optimize the potential of various sports, especially those in the category of team sports or teams," said Okto, Raja Sapta Oktohari's greeting, in a statement.

In Olympic history, the fattest Indonesian contingent was recorded at the 2000 Sydney Olympics with 47 athletes and Barcelona in 1992 with 42 athletes.

Meanwhile, at the 2024 Paris Olympics recently, Indonesia passed 29 athletes or more than participation in the previous four editions.

In detail, in Beijing 2008, Indonesia passed 24 athletes. Then, in London 2012 there were 22 athletes departing.

Meanwhile, when participating in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2020, both sent 28 athletes who passed.

"So, for that initial stage, the main target that we are pursuing is to increase the number of athletes who qualified for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, United States," said Okto.

So far, apart from the number of athletes who have qualified for the Olympics, Indonesia has also lost in competing in gold medals.

Indonesia's best achievement was two gold medals in one edition which were won on two different occasions.

The gold medal also still relies on badminton, except in Paris.

During the 2024 Paris Olympics, the two gold medalists were rock climbing and weightlifting.
