2024 MMA World Championships In Indonesia Followed By 42 Countries

JAKARTA A total of 500 athletes from 42 countries have registered and confirmed their appearance at the GAMMA World MMA Championship 2024 in Indonesia.

The championship will take place at the Dewa MMA Arena, Tangerang, Banten, on 6-14 December 2024. Indonesia also participated in deploying senior and junior athletes in this event.

Chairman of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Mixed Fighting Association (PB Percatami), Tommy Paulus, said that the number of participants may still increase because registration is still open.

"It should have been closed, but there was a request from the President of MMA China, so we will open until November 20, 2024," he said at a press conference at the Kemenpora office, Jakarta, Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

At this event, Indonesia will field 21 male athletes and 13 female athletes in the senior category. Meanwhile, in the U-18 category, Indonesia has 12 athletes consisting of 10 male athletes and two female athletes.

Tommy said that Indonesian representatives had also undergone various intensive preparations, especially seniors who had been dispatched to Kazakhstan.

"Actually, at the end of the next year in China, but because the time was tight, we sent it to Bali. Meanwhile, U-18 has been undergoing intensive training at UNJ (Indonesia University Jakarta) since June 2024," he said.

This is the first time in the history of the event holding a senior and junior categories at the same time. Preparations made by PP Pertacami to face the event went smoothly.

The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) of the Republic of Indonesia, Dito Ariotedjo, hopes that the trust given to Indonesia can produce potential combat athletes.

"MMA is a sport whose development is unique. Indonesia must be ready because in the future MMA will be dominant in the multi-branch event. We hope that there will be targets fostered from Pertambami," said Dito.

Indonesia will appear in all the events competed in the GAMMA World MMA Championships 2024. The target is that the Red and White Team can secure three gold medals from this event.
