JAKARTA – Men's singles badminton player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting is confirmed to be absent from the 2024 Kumamoto Japan Masters this week due to a waist injury.
Men's singles coach Irwansyah said that Ginting began to feel the problem after he appeared at the 2024 Denmark Open in October 2024.
"When he returned to Indonesia, he was examined and immediately went through the recovery process. His condition is much better now, but he is not ready to compete again. So, it was decided to be withdrawn from these two tournaments," said Irwansyah.
Ginting was previously included in the draw released by the BWF. In the draw, he also met his compatriot Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo.
Ginting's decision to withdraw means that Indonesia has three men's singles. Apart from Chico, the other two names are Jonatan Christie and Alwi Farhan.
"Hopefully, he can make a full recovery. The strengthening of his waist muscles is really optimal so that next year he will be ready and good," said Irwansyah.
The 2024 Kumamoto Japan Masters at the BWF Super 500 level will take place on November 12-17, 2024 at the Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium, Kumamoto, Japan. Indonesia is sending a total of 16 representatives there.
This is the second year the event has been held. In the first edition last year, Indonesia brought home one title through Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
Gregoria, who was previously injured at the 2024 Denmark Open, is now fit. She is included in this year's list so her chances of defending her title are open.
