Indonesian National Team Calls 27 Players, Without Asnawi Mangkualam And Ernando Ari

The Indonesian national team will play two home games in the 2026 World Cup Qualification (VOI/Ferry Tri Adi Sasono).

JAKARTA - The coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae,-yong has released a list of players who will defend the squad in the 2026 World Cup Qualification match. Of the 27 names who were called, there were no names of Asnawi Mangkualam and Ernando Ari Sutaryadi.

Currently, the Garuda Squad continues to finalize preparations ahead of two home matches against Japan and Saudi Arabia in Group C of the Third Round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification. The match against Japan will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta, on November 15, 2024.

It was only four days later that the match against Saudi Arabia was held in the same location. Ahead of the match, 27 names of players have been called Shin Tae-yong.

A number of names of players who have survived abroad such as Maarten Paes (FC Dallas), Jay Idzes (Venzoia), Justin Hubner (Wolves), Calvin Verdok (NEC Nijmegen), and Pratama Arhan (Suwon FC) are certain to take part.

Other names such as Shayne Pattynama (KAS Eupen), Sandy Walsh (KV Mechelen), Thom Haye (Almere City), Nathan Tjoe-A-Oen (Swansea City), Ivar Jenner (FC Utrecht), and Eliano Reijnders (PEC Zwolle) were also included by the coach in the squad.

However, during the match against Japan and Saudi Arabia in SUGBK later, Shin Tae-yong did not include the name Asnawi Mangkualam (Port FC). In fact, in the previous match, Asnawi was trusted by the coach to wear the armband.

Apart from Asnawi, one goalkeeper who is often a regular is also not included. The name is Persebaya Surabaya goalkeeper, Ernando Ari Sutaryadi.

Instead of including Ernando, Shin Tae-yong entrusted three slots of goalkeepers to Maarten Paes, Nadeo Arga Winata, and Muhammad Riyandi.

Although choosing not to include several subscription names, the South Korean coach's decision is expected to still be able to make a maximum team. The reason is, currently the Indonesian national team is still in fifth place in the Group C standings of the Third Round of the 2026 Asian Zone Qualifiers with three points.

The three points came from the results of the series against Saudi Arabia (1-1), Australia (0-0), Bahrain (2-2), and China (1-2).

The Indonesian national team is below Japan (10 points), Australia (5), Saudi Arabia (5), and Bahrain (5) which go hand in hand on the first to fourth stairs. While the caretaker position of Group C is still inhabited by China which also collects three points.
