Real Sociedad Vs Athletic Bilbao Match Report: Villalibre 1-0 Real Sociedad

JAKARTA - Athletic Bilbao drew 1-1 with Real Sociedad in a La Liga match on Wednesday local time, which was a replay of last weekend's Copa del Rey final in which La Real beat Athletic to win the trophy.

As reported by the football-espana website, before the league began, Athletic Bilbao coach Marcelino confirmed that the league match against Sociedad was an honorary match after they failed to win the Copa del Rey.

The game was tight until the end, but Bilbao took the lead in the 85th minute through Asier Villalibre.

Four minutes later Roberto Lopez equalised which ensured both teams shared the points.

After the game, Villalibre admitted to being disappointed with the draw his team got.

"It's embarrassing. We had a solid game but because of a mistake we didn't take home three points," Villalibre was quoted as saying from Twitter @athletic-en

Bilbao remain 10th in the La Liga standings, with Sociedad beating Real Betis and Villareal to finish fifth.

Last weekend both teams competed in the Copa del Rey final which was a long-delayed 2020 final edition due to the pandemic.

Bilbao have soared since marcelino's tackle in early January. They won the Spanish Super Cup or Supercopa de Espana after defeating Barcelona.

Nevertheless they are ten points below La Real in the league standings.
