Gregoria Mariska Must Be Out For One Week

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung suffered an injury in the semifinals of the Denmark Open 2024 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA The women's singles badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung had to be sidelined for the next week due to an injury she experienced in the semifinals of the Denmark Open 2024.

The head of the PBSI Medical Team, dr. Nicolaas C. Budhiparama, confirmed this after analyzing the results of Gregoria's examination which came out on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

"As a result, he must rest until at least next Monday (week). He should not practice first," he said in a statement received from PBSI.

Gregoria, who won a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, immediately underwent an examination at Medistra Hospital when she arrived in Jakarta from Denmark on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, morning WIB.

Nicolaas said that he did not want to be careless in making decisions related to the handling of top athletes' injuries such as Gregoria.

"So, I will see first the progress until next Monday. Then, I will check again. Then I will give back recommendations whether they can return to training or still have to rest," he said.

He also expressed pain at the injury experienced by the gold medalist at the 2017 Junior World Championship from Wonogiri, which has now greatly reduced.

"M Gregoria's sick level was at eight-nine from a 1-10 scale, until she couldn't wake up. However, after we took care of it, today the level of illness has greatly decreased. Maybe only at three," said Nicolaas.

Gregoria suffered an injury when she met the world number one women's singles from South Korea, An Se-young. The problem forced him to step down and give up victory to his opponent.

An Se-young who then advanced to the final had to settle for being runner-up after he lost against China's second seed Wang Zhi Yi.
