Crawford Reveals Reasons For Rejecting Duel With Conor McGregor

JAKARTA The owner of the WBA and WBO interim lightweight boxing belts, Terence Crawford, revealed the reasons for rejecting the fight offer against Conor McGregor.

Crawford admitted he was contacted by McGregor who claimed the fight would make hundreds of millions of dollars, but he refused to enter the octagon.

"I told him, 'Bung, I don't want to go into the octagon with you so you can kick and follow me and so on'," Crawford said.

Crawford refused because he was not a mixed martial arts specialist fighter, but a boxer. So, the duel only benefited McGregor.

He said that duels between two different disciplined fighters usually went unbalanced.

"Sometimes it's not about money. I can make money, but you (McGregor) wouldn't kick me, man. Kicks and elbows, it really can't be considered a joke," Crawford said.

Until now Crawford is fully focused on his professional career in boxing. In his last fight, Crawford won the WBA super welterweight title from Israil Madrimov through an absolute decision two months ago.

He also got a WBO interim belt in the process. As a result, he is a mandatory challenger for WBO and WBC champions Sebastian Fundora.

On August 28, 2024, WBO ordered the Fundora to defend its title against Crawford. At that time, the two boxers were given 30 days to negotiate an agreement.

Since then they have been given an extension of the 10-day negotiations until October 10, 2024 before the official offer is submitted.
