Indra Sjafri's Third U-20 Asian Cup And 20th For Indonesia U-20, To What Extent Will Garuda Muda Talk?

The U-20 Indonesian national team is targeting the top four of the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup (doc. PSSI).

JAKARTA - The 2025 U-20 Asian Cup will be Indonesia's 20th participation. For Indra Sjafri, he has led Garuda Muda in the final round of three editions.

In the 1960s to 1970s, Indonesia U-20 was screened. One title was held in the 1961 edition.

Garuda Muda also became runners-up twice (1967 and 1970). Then, Indonesia U-20 twice touched the semifinalists, third in 1962 and fourth in 1960.

Indonesia U-20 then never managed to penetrate the five achievements in the other 14 editions, 10 times stopped in the group stage and the remaining four managed to penetrate the quarter-finals.

This means that for 53 years Indonesia U-20 has not felt its legs in the top four of the U-20 Asian Cup until the last edition in 2023.

Shin Tae-yong, who led the U-20 Indonesian troops in the 2023 edition, failed to improve his journey. Garuda Muda was stopped in the group stage after ending the preliminary in third place, behind Uzbekistan and Iraq.

No wonder, Shin Tae-yong and Indra Sjafri planned that there would be additional strength for Indonesia U-20 in the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup.

Indra Sjafri emphasized that there is an opportunity to add quality players, including descendants.

The coach wants Indonesia U-20 to talk a lot with a target of breaking into the 2025 U-20 World Cup.
