The Ministry Of Law And Human Rights Also Encourages Naturalization For The Indonesian Basketball National Team

JAKARTA - Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham), Supratman Andi Agtas, stated that the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) fully supports the efforts of the Indonesian national team to advance to the 2026 World Cup. This commitment was stated through naturalization support for soccer athletes.

This was conveyed by Supratman when meeting with the General Chairperson (Ketum) of PSSI, Erick Thohir, at the Kemenkumham Building on Thursday, September 19, 2024, morning WIB. At that moment, Supratman was committed to providing full support for the realization of achievements and achievements in the field of sports, especially football.

In addition, Supratman also said that his party also encouraged naturalization for the Indonesian Basketball National Team so that basketball achievements were boosted at the international level.

"Pak Erick reported several things, related to PSSI and Perbasi. Alhamdulillah, he conveyed (about) the provision of optimal support to all talents (athletes) who can raise the good name of the Republic of Indonesia in the international arena, (in particular) in the two sports," said the Minister of Law and Human Rights in a statement received on Thursday, September 19, 2024.

"Of course this is inseparable from the contribution made by Mr. Erick, (moreover) in the sport of football, this is people's sport, all of our sport."

"I hope that with the support provided by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, especially those related to this naturalization, we will be able to make a real contribution to our efforts to appoint and pass our upcoming Indonesian national team at the 2026 World Cup," he said again.

Regarding naturalization, PSSI and the Government are currently processing the granting of citizenship to soccer players Mees Hilgers and Eliano Reijnders.

Mees Hilgers is currently a Dutch club player, FC Twenty, who fills the defender position. Hilgers underwent naturalization because it was found to have Indonesian blood from his mother who came from Manado.

Meanwhile, Eliano Reijnders is playing the PEC Zwolle, which usually plays in attacking midfielders and wings. Eliano has Indonesian blood from his mother who is from Maluku.
