Hong Kong Open 2024: Hot Late, Anthony Ginting Doesn't Move In Front Of Axelsen

Anthony Ginting lost easily to Viktor Axelsen in the semifinals of the Hong Kong Open 2024 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA - Anthony Sinisuka Ginting failed to advance to the final of the Hong Kong Open 2024 after being stopped by Viktor Axelsen.

Their meeting in the semifinals lasted 42 minutes. Axelsen locked the final ticket after beating Ginting two straight games, 21-9 and 21-19.

Anthony Ginting did not move in front of Axelsen in the first set. He was already 1-7 behind at the start of the game.

At the interval, Ginting had difficulty chasing numbers very far at 4-11.

Axelsen continued to advance until he left the Indonesian singles with a position of 10 points, 19-9. The next two points led the Danish representative to secure the first set easily.

In the second set, the situation did not change. Ginting again struggled to face Axelsen's resistance until he fell far behind during the break, 3-11.

After the interval of the second set, Anthony Ginting can get out of the pressure little by little and get hot.

He had approached 13-17. However, Axelsen's three consecutive points led him to the 20-13 match point.

Ginting did not give up. He had time to stop Axelsen's points in order to force a deduction.

The 27-year-old badminton player who was late in the heat could even get closer to 19-20. However, his pursuit of Axelsen failed after the Danish badminton player won one point 21-19.

Indonesian men's singles now just have to hope that Jonathan Christie, who will fight for the final ticket for the 2024 Hong Kong Open against Lei Lan Xi (China) tonight.

If Jonathan manages to advance to the top party, he will meet Axelsen. The 26-year-old badminton player is trying to win the Hong Kong Open title twice in a row.

Last year, Jonathan won the Super 500 BWF event after defeating Kenta Nishimoto in the final.
