Hong Kong Open 2024: Different Fate Leo/Bagas And Fikri/Daniel

Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana stepped into the semifinals of the Hong Kong Open 2024 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA Two couples who have just been reshuffled, Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin, have different fates in the 2024 Hong Kong Open tournament.

The first pair made it past the quarter-finals of the tournament and reached their third semifinals in a row since the rotation, while the other had to lift the suitcase.

Leo/Bagas qualified for the semifinals in Hong Kong after defeating the South Korean pair, Kim Gi-jung/Kim Sa-rang, two straight games 21-13 and 21-9 at Hong Kong Coliseum, Friday, September 13, 2024, afternoon WIB.

"The points look far away, but today's match is not easy. The opponent is a very experienced senior player," Leo said after the match as received in an official statement from PBSI.

This result makes Leo/Bagas look much more promising when compared to Fikri/Daniel. Leo/Bagas since the rotation were recorded to always managed to reach the semifinals in three consecutive tournaments that were played.

The first semifinal they managed to climb was when they took part in their inaugural tournament, Japan Open 2024. After that, they achieved it again at the Korea Open 2024, where they then reached the final and won.

Fikri/Daniel experienced different conditions. They have also played three tournaments since the formation was changed. However, they only stepped in the semifinals before their latest failure in the quarter-finals of Hong Kong 2024.

They previously achieved two semifinals at Japan and the Korea Open 2024, respectively. While playing the Korea Open 2024, they failed to advance to the final round after being beaten by Leo/Bagas.

As for the Hong Kong Open 2024, their steps stopped in the last eight after losing to the third seed from South Korea, Kang Min-hyuk/Seo Seung-jae, in a duel of two straight games, 18-21 and 17-21.

"These three tournaments are not good enough, but not bad either. We want to go further. Hopefully at the 2024 China Open (we) can get better results," said Daniel.

The China Open 2024, which is at the Super 1000 BWF level, will take place next week, September 17-22, 2024 to be exact. One of the four prestigious events at the BWF World Tour will be held at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium.
