Triyatno Doesn't Bring The Target To PON Aceh-North Sumatra 2024

JAKARTA Weightlifter Triyatno did not have a target of getting a gold medal when he took part in the 2024 Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON).

The silver medalist at the 2012 London Olympics will appear in the 81 kilograms class at the 2024 PON. He will play on behalf of Banten Province.

He said that he did not undergo serious preparations for this event. You see, he is also busy taking care of his team, Rizki Juniansyah, the gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

"I got off at the Aceh-North PON, this is not grandiose for the target of getting a gold medal. So, I just got a good medal," said Triyatno when met in Jakarta.

PON Aceh-Sumut 2024 has only officially opened on September 9, 2024. However, a number of sports such as futsal and football have started to hold competitions.

The weightlifting sport will also compete before the opening ceremony. Triyatno will compete later on September 6, 2024, while Rizki will be the day after.

Triyatno said that on paper Rizki's chance to win was very big when compared to himself. However, he refused to underestimate the opponent.

"For Rizki, 80-85 percent on paper can win. We just can't be arrogant. We have to keep practicing, keep his generation at 155 kilograms or 150 kilograms. It must be picked up by him," he said.

In addition, he also explained the reason why Rizki continued to compete in PON even though he had already won a gold medal from the Olympics.

"If we don't play in the regions and then only internationally, it will be disrespectful because we grew up with the regions from the start. So, if we don't go down, it seems disrespectful," said Triyatno.

In addition to the two names, Banten also has four other lifters who also qualified for the 2024 PON. They are Yuda Permana (61 kg) men, Alya Maulida (81 kg) women, Boy Sandika (102 kg) men, and Alif Wildan Hanaf (+109 kg) men.
