Japan Open 2024: Indonesia Zero Representatives In Final

JAKARTA Indonesia has no representatives in the final round of the Japan Open 2024. This happened after the men's doubles pair Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana were also eliminated.

The pair lost two straight games 21-19 and 21-17 when they met eighth seed from Malaysia, Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin, at Yokohama Arena, Japan, on Saturday, August 24 afternoon WIB.

"From the game side, I did die a lot myself. The blow didn't feel good. Even so, I actually tried to take out good punches but it was still difficult to produce numbers," said Bagas after the match.

However, the semifinals were a good achievement for Leo/Bagas. That's because they came to this tournament as a new composition.

Bagas was previously paired with Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, while Leo partnered with Daniel Marthin. However, ahead of this tournament they were overhauled by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI).

"This result is quite good to be able to reach the semifinals with a new partner. Even so, we still have to work hard and maintain communication. And we have to believe in each other with our partners," said Bagas.

This defeat made Leo/Bagas follow in the footsteps of Fikri/Daniel who had been eliminated first this morning. The defeat of the two newest representatives automatically ensured that Indonesia was not held.

Leo said that in this match their game was not as expected. Moreover, in the previous three matches they performed well and were recorded not to have lost a set.

"Our defense was not as solid as the previous match. This is also because of the intense opponent's attack. There may also be wind factors that I feel. Shuttlecock when I hit it didn't want to go down, it felt like it was still floating," he said.

Indonesia fielded a total of 10 representatives in this Super 750 BWF level event. However, only the two pairs above can reach the last four.

As for the details of the previous eight representatives, three were eliminated in the first half, four were eliminated in the second half, and the remaining one returned home in the quarter-finals of yesterday's round.
