JAKARTA - Superstar MotoGP, Marc Marquez does not feel the need to target high after experiencing a crash in the 2024 Australian MotoGP sprint race. Ahead of the main race, Sunday, August 18, the Indonesian citizen from Spain is optimistic that he can get a podium.
During the sprint race on Saturday, August 17, Marquez appeared quite impressive and was in second place. But he failed to finish the race because at the ninthlap, the racer who is now defending the Gresini Racing team fell.
Donating in the sprint race did not make Marquez disappointed. The owner of the eight world titles has returned to focus on the main race.
"I performed quite solid all weekend, but there was a mistake in the worst moment," Marquez said as quoted by Crash on Sunday, August 18.
“ On weekends I see competitors half a step ahead of us. Today I tried to cut that half-step, but I took too much risk. So tomorrow (during the main race) I had a target of finishing third place and finishing the race,” he said later.
Having failed to score points in the sprint race, Marquez is now ranked fourth in the MotoGP racing class with 179 points. The former Repsol Honda mainstay is 19 points behind Enea Bastianini who is ranked third in the standings.
Meanwhile, compared to Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin, Marquez is 71 points away. However, Marquez's position is still quite safe from the pursuit of riders outside the top four zones such as Maverick Vinales, Pedrodeca, and Brad Binder.
