Patrich Wanggai Becomes A Victim Of Racism For Netizens, This Is Said By PSSI

JAKARTA - Secretary-General of PSSI Yunus Nusi regretted the racist attack aimed at PSM Makassar attacker Patrich Wanggai through social media.

"Of course we regret the actions of 'netizens' who say racism to Patrich Wanggai. PSSI strongly opposes and asks all supporters and netizens in Indonesia to leave racism", said Yunus, quoted by Antara from the official website of PSSI in Jakarta, Thursday.

PSSI, he continued, hoped that a similar incident would not happen again. Racism has never been accepted in football circles and this attitude continues to be echoed by the International Football Federation (FIFA).

Yunus said PSSI will continue to provide anti-racism insights to national football lovers.

"PSSI will continue to provide education and need the support of all parties to fight racism in Indonesian football", said the man who also serves as a member of the PSSI Executive Committee.

PSM striker from Nabire, Papua, Patrich Wanggai received racial attacks through social media after he led Juku Eja's squad to beat Persija Jakarta with a score of 2-0 in the Group B match for the Menpora Cup 2021, Monday, March 22.

Wanggai scored the first goal of the game, plus another goal from Yakob Sayuri.

Regarding the racist attitude towards Patrich Wanggai, PSM has sent a letter numbered 010/PSM-ADM/III/2021 to PSSI on March 22, 2021.

In the letter signed by the CEO of PSM Munafri Arifuddin, the Juku Eja club emphasized that they always support Patrich Wanggai and oppose any form of racism in Indonesian football.
