Goalkeeper David De Gea Agrees To Join Fiorentina

JAKARTA - Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea will return to standing under the bar. De Gea received a one-year contract from Fiorentina with the option of an extension of one year.

De Gea has been unemployed for one year since his contract was no longer extended by MU in July 2023. He was taken over by Andre Onana who was no better than De Gea.

Even the goalkeeper who was brought in from Inter Milan gave MU a goal deficit last season. How not Onana's goal conceded up to 58 goals and only scored 57 goals. MU also ended the competition by being ranked eighth or lowest since the issuance of the English Premier League.

Onana's poor performance made the issue of De Gea's return to Old Trafford strengthen. However, MU remained unmoved and De Gea remained without a club until the end of last season.

However, there are many offers from various clubs for the former Spanish national team goalkeeper. Including Newcastle United and Nottngham Forest who want to bring De Gea back to England. However, there is no continuation of the 34-year-old goalkeeper recruitment plan.

Fiorentina finally hooked De Gea and immediately did a medical test. Only the goalkeeper must be willing to cut his salary if he debuts in the Italian Serie A.

Because the last salary that De Gea received at MU reached 375 thousand pounds or approximately 7.6 billion rupiahs each week. Now, he receives a salary of 1 million euros or 17.6 billion rupiah every year.

If performance is not disappointing, the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper will get the option of extending his one-year contract with a salary increase of 2 million euros.

De Gea became a mainstay under Manchester United when he was recruited from Atletico in 2011. Only, he was brought in when legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson was about to retire.

De Gea just once brought MU to win the Premier League trophy in 2013. After bringing MU to win, Ferguson declared his retirement. Since then, MU has never won the league again. However, De Gea can still win the Europa League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup and Community Shield.

During his 12 years playing at MU, he has played 545 times. He was the last player at MU who played very long before being released in 2023.
