JAKARTA - Union Berlin has confirmed that their main team has agreed to accept salary cuts in order to save the club's finances during the COVID-19 or corona virus pandemic.
Another staff member also agreed to have his salary cut because everyone in the club was united during the crisis. Moreover, all Bundesliga matches were suspended until at least next May.
The German Football League (DFL) confirmed on Tuesday that the suspensions in the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga would be extended to April 30.
"These are extraordinary circumstances that we have to deal with," Union president Dirk Zingler said in a statement quoted on the club's official website. "The objective of our club is football. If there is no more it will touch the very core of our existence.
"The management, our staff, squad and dressing room staff have worked hard in recent months to ensure success in the Bundesliga. Now they are giving a lot of money to get through this crisis together.
The first-team squad and backroom staff have agreed to waive salaries, while employees and managers will take salary cuts to see the club through these extraordinary challenges. #fcunion https://t.co/DdudzBhdaP

"This willingness cannot be credited high enough to everyone involved. On behalf of the entire club management I would like to thank them for their support.
"As a club, we will conquer the challenges ahead and this will happen, if we work together as a Union family."
Union is playing for the first time in the top flight of the German League, but the domestic season in Germany has been suspended since March 13 due to COVID-19.
Union are on track to maintain their Bundesliga status for another year - they sit 11th in the standings, amassing 30 points from 25 matches.
