Competing Fierce, 4 Teams Of American Women's Football-Europe For The Semifinals Of The 2024 Olympics

The quarter-finals of the 2024 Olympics women's soccer branch have been completed on Saturday, August 4 in the morning WIB.

Quoted from ANTTARA, the four teams that are confirmed to qualify for the semifinals are Spain, the United States, Germany, and Brazil, as reported by the official website of the 2024 Olympics.

Spain vs Colombia

The world champion of the Spanish World Cup advanced to the semifinals after beating Colombia on penalties 4-2. Both teams drew 2-2 for 90 minutes plus extra time.

Spain were eyeing a gold medal in their first appearance in Olympic women's football, but they came close to being knocked out after losing 2-0 to the South American side.

Colombia's two goals were scored by Mayra Ramirez andrah Santos. Spain managed to reduce the gap through Jennifer Hermoso's goal in the 79th minute before captain Irene Paredes equalized through his goal in the seventh minute of extra time.

No goals were scored and the time and match continued to the penalty shootout round.

In the penalty shootout, all Spanish kickers managed to score goals, while Osme and totaling failed to make the first and third shots for the Colombian team, respectively.

United States vs Japan

Meanwhile, the United States team managed to advance to the top four after eliminating Japan with a narrow score of 1-0 in the quarter-final match which took place at the Parc des Princes.

The US winning goal was scored at the end of the first half by Trinity Rodman, daughter of former basketball player Dennis Rodman.

France vs Brazil

The French home team's move had to stop in the quarter-finals after losing to Brazil 1-0 at the La Beaujoire Stadium.

The Samba team's winning goal was scored by Gaby Portillo in the last half of the second half. This result made Brazil's team advance to the semifinals of the Olympics for the first time since 2016, when they lost to Sweden when they hosted.

The Brazilian women's team last won a medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics when they got silver after losing to the United States team.

Canada vs Germany

Meanwhile, Canada had to bury their dream of winning the gold medal they won at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics again after losing on penalties 2-4 by Germany in a quarter-final match at the Marseille Stadium.

No goals were created in normal time and extra time. The game ended 0-0 and had to go on penalties.

German goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger managed to ward off a penalty for two Canadian players, namely Ashley Lawrence and Adriana Leon. Ann-Katrin also scored a winning goal to take her country to the semifinals.
