The Fitness Of England's National Team Players Is Worrying

JAKARTA - Gareth Southgate gave the latest news on the England's worrying fitness. He revealed his troops had not yet reached their top performance and were unable to play like the Euro 2024 Qualification.

Southgate admits that several pillars have been physically drained. Including captain Harry Kane who played far below the standard against Denmark, Thursday, June 20, 2024.

Kane was replaced in the 70th minute in the 1-1 match. He struggled to appear sharp since returning from a back injury at the end of last season.

However, Kane was England's only goalscorer against Denmark.

"Harry only has 90 minutes in five or six weeks," Southgate said of Kane's fitness.

Currently, Southgate is trying to make players' fitness improve again ahead of the final match of Group C against Slovenia on June 25, 2024.

One of them is undergoing a yoga practice session hosted by Dr. Rebekah Jade in BLAnkenhain, England headquarters during Euro 2024.

"We are not pressing well enough, with sufficient intensity. We have limitations in physical condition."

"We couldn't press as high as we did in qualifying, for example. Didn't keep the ball well enough. That's as simple as that."

"We have to control the ball better and build with more control. If that's the case, we'll hold on a little less and we'll be more confident," Southgate said.

Meanwhile, Southgate is likely to make changes to the line-up in the final Group C match against Slovenia.

He had to consider his formation in order to get a team with good fitness when it touched the knockout phase.

"We will see everything. We will see performance and see the next opponent and find the best solution for the next game."

"We feel the right thing to do against Denmark is to give confidence to the players we chose in the first game. We have won the previous game," said the manager again.
