Australian Open 2024: 3 Indonesian Representatives Qualify Semifinals

JAKARTA Three Indonesian representatives get tickets to the semifinals of the Australian Open 2024. The three of them represent one sector each.

The most recent ticket was secured by the Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi pair. They escaped after beating the host's representative, Kaitlyn Ea/Gronya Somerville, two straight games with a score of 21-15 and 21-13 at Quaycentre, Sydney, Australia, Friday, June 14, 2024.

Ana/Tiwi, who are the second seed, will then meet another representative of the host, Setyana Mapasa/Angela Yu, who is the fourth seed.

The other two tickets each belonged to the men's doubles pair Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan and the women's singles Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo.

Hendra/Ahsan, nicknamed The Daddies, escaped after beating Pramudya Kusumawardana/Andika Ramadiansyah two straight games with a score of 21-14 and 21-17. Pram and Andika are former PBSI Pelatnas athletes who now carry Australian flags in the BWF tournament.

The Daddies, the second seed in the event, will face the Chinese Taipei pair Chen Zhi Ray/Lin Yu Chieh in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Ester qualified for the top four after defeating her compatriot, Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi. Ester then faced the single Chinese Taipei, Pai Yu Po.

The results of the 2024 Australian Open made Ester also the second women's singles in Indonesia to reach the semifinals of the BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament and above after Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
