Held In 2021, UEFA Will Not Change Its Name For Euro 2020

JAKARTA - UEFA will not change the name Euro 2020 even though this tournament is postponed until next year. This was done in the midst of the outbreak of COVID-19 or the corona virus in almost all over the world.

It was announced this week that the quadrennial European Nations tournament was postponed until 11 June - 11 July 2021. If competitions go ahead as scheduled, this will mark the 60th anniversary of the European Championship.

For that reason, on Friday it was emphasized that there would be no renaming for this competition.

An answer on a page of frequently asked questions on the UEFA website reads: "We believe that all of our venues will remain the same, ensuring the tournament remains true to its original vision: holding a truly European event befitting its 60th anniversary. EURO.

"The tournament will still be known as UEFA EURO 2020."

A tweet from the UEFA account also read: "Although it will temporarily run from 11 June - 11 July 2021, # EURO2020 will still be known as UEFA EURO 2020."

UEFA added that it was not yet able to say whether the final of the main European clubs' competitions will still take place on its original date and at its scheduled venue.

"It is too early to say. Our aim is to finish all European and domestic club competitions by the end of the current sports season - 30 June 2020 - if the situation improves," wrote the answer to another question.

"However, the health of everyone involved in the game must first be guaranteed.

"The working group will assess different scenarios. We must wait for the outcome of the discussion as well as the evolution of the situation before reaching any conclusions."

UEFA was also unable to say how qualifying for next year's club competition could work amidst the uncertainties, adding: "It is too early to answer this question and our aim is to ensure that all domestic competitions are resolved."
