JAKARTA Young Indonesian athletes in the 2024 ASEAN School Games (ASG) contingent are given scholarships by the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Menpora RI), Dito Ariotedjo.

The 13th edition of the ASG will take place from May 31 to June 9, 2024 in Da Nang, Vietnam. Indonesia completed the event with the title of second position, behind the host who filled the first position.

"The government will provide scholarships for winners for gold, silver and bronze medalists. There must also be bonuses for coaches," said Dito at Wisma Kemenpora, Monday, June 10, 2024, afternoon WIB.

From this event, the Indonesian contingent brought home a total of 63 medals. In detail, 22 gold medals, 22 silver medals, and 20 bronze medals.

Vietnam, who finished at the top, managed to collect a total of 44 gold medals. Meanwhile, trailing Indonesia in third place was Thailand, which brought home 17 gold medals.

Dito said that this achievement actually missed the target of the overall champion given. However, the Government really appreciates the struggle of young athletes.

"We should have given our appreciation to the athletes and coaches. Congratulations and keep the spirit, our struggle is still long. The government will continue to facilitate and support," said Dito.

ASG 2024 overhauled six sports. The six sports are athletics, aquatics, badminton, vovinam, pencak silat, and basketball.

Swimming is the most sports that won gold medals, with a total of 11. In a row, followed after the five gold, badminton and athletic medals, two gold each, and one vovinam and basketball sport each.
