Shin Tae-yong Affirms That Jordi's Blunder Is Not A Very Age Factor

Jordi Amat received a red card in the match against Iraq (doc. PSSI).

The Indonesian national team defender, Jordi Amat, stole the attention in the second round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification match against Iraq at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Thursday, June 6, 2024, which resulted in a 0-2 defeat.

The captain made a blunder which made him get a straight red card in the 59th minute. Jordi Amat's exit made the position of the Indonesian national team even more difficult because he was 0-1 behind.

Jordi Amat was not the only time that made a blunder that then affected the team's balance. Previously, he also made a mistake when the Indonesian national team fell 1-5 from Iraq in Basra.

Then, there was also the blunder moment of Jordi Amat in the match against the Philippines afterwards.

You could say, Jordi Amat has a long series of blunders which are then related to the player's age factor.

Related to that, Shin Tae-yong denied and admitted that Jordi was one of the best. He has his own views on the performance of the centre-back.

"I see Jordi Amat as the best player. I don't see these mistakes (blunder records) as an age factor," Shin Tae-yong told a news conference after the match against Iraq.

"If we look at it as a whole, Jordi actually played very well (vs Iraq). It's just that the last mistake was what made it difficult for the team to get a red card," he said again.

The South Korean coach thinks Jordi Amat is a professional player. Therefore, he felt that the mistake would actually make the captain learn and get better in the future.

"However, for that mistake (get a red card in the match against Iraq), Jordi will check and evaluate himself," said Shin Tae-yong.

As a result of receiving a direct red card, Jordi Amat will miss Indonesia vs Philippines on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

Luckily, this situation is not very worrying because the Indonesian national team still has tough defenders who can replace Jordi Amat, such as Jay Idzes.

Other names can also be shifted to a defensive heart position that usually features three defenders. The new naturalized player, Calvin Verdink, could even be another option or place Nathan Tjoe-A-On.
