Shin Tae-yong Opens Opportunities To Play Jay Idzes Against Iraq

JAKARTA - The opportunity for Jay Idzes to participate in defending the Indonesian national team against Iraq in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers is still open. This was revealed directly by Shin Tae-yong.

The Indonesian national team will undergo the last two matches in the second round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification against Iraq (June 6, 2024) and the Philippines (June 11, 2024). Prior to the agenda, Shin Tae-yong had held a training camp in preparation.

However, on the training camp agenda, Jay Idzes was never seen. It was later discovered that Idzes was absent from the TC agenda because the player was defending his club, Venezia, in a promotional playoffs to Serie A.

After his club in Italy's joint assignment was completed on Sunday, June 2, 2024, Jay reportedly immediately flew to Indonesia to join the Indonesian national team. He is also scheduled to arrive in Indonesia on June 5, 2024.

No wonder, Shin Tae-yong said there was still a chance to include Jay Idzes in the match against Iraq.

"Jay (Idzes) will arrive in Indonesia today. So, I will first check the condition of the player. After that, it can be decided whether Jay can play or not," said Shin Tae-yong in a press conference session ahead of the match in Jakarta, Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

The figure of Jay Idzes is quite influential in the team. Since defending the Garuda Squad in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in March 2024, he has been present to provide more guard and options at the back of the team.

The presence of Idzes in the squad against Iraq is also said to be giving strength in the back sector. Moreover, the player is currently in good mental condition after guiding his club to be promoted to Serie A.
