JAKARTA Veby Runner Senopati Silam was named the first commercial seafarer to complete a 200-kilometer Ultra Marathon. He wrote that note at the Binloop Ultra 2024 event.
The results obtained in the Ultra Marathon run which took place from 3-5 May 2024 at Ruko Kebayoran Square, Bintaro, South Tangerang, made the runner who was born in Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, break the MURI record as the first commercial seafarer to be able to complete the Ultra Marathon championship.
Veby took part in a 200-kilometer marathon tournament starting from a hobby of running. He started participating in a running tournament in Indonesia, which started with five kilometers, while undergoing activities as a lecturer at one of the Maritime Training Center while working on a merchant ship for about 10 years.

"Well, so finally I took the time while teaching. Because I like to run, I participated in the running event. Finally I got it from five kilometers, 10 kilometers, to the full marathon (42 km)," he said.
During this period, Veby gradually continued to strive to improve his abilities. He started to raise the level of marathon tournaments from 10 kilometers to 100 kilometers.
Veby's efforts were blocked by the corona pandemic. However, he decided to keep practicing regularly until he ventured to join the marathon with a three-digit distance.
"Finally I took part in the event from the beginning of my 50, then I upgraded again to 100, continued 120, 160 only immediately 200 (km). So, gradually and not instantaneously," he said.
The Ultra Marathon at Bintaro is the most actual tournament that Veby participated in. Prior to that, he had participated in the Tokyo Marathon 2024 which was included in the Six Star World Marathon Majors.
Currently, Veby has plans to be able to complete the series of Six Star WMM. He is determined to become the first commercial seafarers from Indonesia to complete the six world marathons.
